Make your Easter Wreath!

The year is going fast, April is around the corner, and I have nothing to show for it. Easter decoration wise anyways. I always like to decorate for the different holidays and this time around I had nothing for Easter. I had tried fixing my wreath earlier this month for but little progress was made. Take a look at it in all its decor splendor. I do not even remember putting those eggs on there. I felt ashamed and set out to brainstorm something in the middle of the night.

I use the same wreath all year long for every Holiday, I just dress it up differently. I do this mainly to save space because we are very limited on storage and also to challenge myself to come up with something different. I have a set of LED lights for different seasons that I have been able to find at Marshalls or Ross on clearance. They are battery powered which is kinda of a drawback but they have a timer built in so I do not have to worry about turning them on or off.

Being on bill pay off mode I needed to come up with something using the somethings I had on hand! So for this project I used my new Cricut Maker and scraps of paper that I had leftover from other projects.

Things you will need:

  • Cardstock of your choice: I used mainly Green, White, and a few left over pieces from other projects for that pop of color.
  • GrapeVine Wreath (I bought this one years ago at Walmart and it has still held together through the projects!)
  • Glue Gun, Scissors
  • Optional LED lights of your choice (look for them on clearance at Marshalls, Ross, etc..)
  • Cricut Maker (you can also cut the shapes out by hand)

I started with just searching for a leaf shape on Cricut and used the free shape they had in the Library. I printed 3 pages of 8.5 x 11 card stock in two different shades of green. I glued the leaves together with a hot glue gun forming a laurel shape so they can go along the wreath. I went in no particular order I enjoyed just free handing the style.

For the flowers I used Rose #MC8B7E1 from the Vintage Wedding Collection. I had purchased this one back a while ago so it was in my Library. I made several white (because this is what I had most of) pink and yellow roses, you know like the Yellow Rose of Texas… I assembled the flowers and began placing them around the wreath just to see how I liked it best. It wasn’t until after I had glued the leaves together and placed the roses that I realized it would be fitting that the leaves would have some dimension. I happened to have a few left over and just gave them a crease down the middle to make them more 3-D like. With the hot glue gun I attached the Laurels than the Roses and then the 3-D leaves. After everything was in place I added the LED string of Easter Egg Lights and hid the battery box behind the wreath in one of the branches.

Looking good! I pulled out some colorful scraps of paper I had and than designed this quick “Happy Easter” sign. I cut two of the base layers so that I can glue them together and create a strong back piece. I created this with the idea that it was going to go along across the wreath so the letters needed to be able to support themselves. I know I have the Cricut Maker and it can cut wood and chipboard but for the time I was using what I had on hand.

I glued the pieces and letters on and Listo! I had my Easter Wreath ready for display. I hung it up and added the carrot garland I bought last year at Marshalls on clearance for like three dollars! I had been bummed not having anything ready for the Easter Holiday coming up but now I must say I am very pleased. The lights are going to look amazing at night (don’t forget to put your timer!) Happy Crafting!
