A friend of mine will be having her 1st Holy communion for her daughter soon. She had seen our previous post on using succulents as mini thank you gifts that you can find right here. She felt inspired and wanted a custom order. She had in mind wooden crosses with her daughters name on them somehow but not making it seem like she will be buried. After a few brainstorming sessions this is what I came up with.
I was excited to use my new Cricut Knife Blade. I used 1/16″ thick Basswood for this creation, and Metallic Gold spray paint from Rustoleum for pizzazz. And of course my handy-tortured glued gun.
I downloaded a cross shape from the shapes library and calibrated my knife blade since it was the first time I used it. The crosses are 3 inches in height so that they will look nice and will stand out when placed in the succulent planter.
The knife blade in the Cricut will do several passes so while the Cricut was doing its thing, I went ahead and started trimming the Basswood stick that I was going to use as the pick. I cut them each at 6″ and gave one of the ends a “point shape” so that they can be inserted into the soil.
When the machine was done with the cutting, which I must say it did a nice job especially for my first time using the knife blade, I attached the cross to the pick using the hot glue gun. It was a super nice day so I headed outside to spray paint the crosses gold.
While the crosses were drying, I printed these little circles with the cutest quote and the girl’s name. The day was super nice so the crosses dried very quickly. I brought them in and checked them out! To give a little dimension to the gold crosses I stuck them on with double sided foam tape. I attached the circle and admired!
